Faculty - Blackboard Text Editor Options
1: Bold text.
2: Italicize text.
3: Underline text.
4: Strikethrough text.
5: Format your paragraphs. Using the Heading and Subheading options will allow you to be compliant with accessibility.
6: Chose a font. Arial and Veranda are recommended fonts for proper accessibility.
7: Choose your font size. The recommend size for accessibility is a 12-point minimum.
8: Apply bullets to a list.
9: Provide a numbered list.
10: Chose your text color. For accessibility purposes, it is best to stick with a black font on a white background.
11: Highlight any text. If you are going to use a highlight to call out information it is also advised to bold the same text as well for proper accessibility. Also, make sure there is proper contrast between the text and the highlight colors.
12: Remove formatting. If you copy and paste from Word, you will often get a white line in the background. By using this tool, you can eliminate that white line. Please note this strips all formatting (underlines, bolds, etc) so you will need to re-format your text.
13: Preview your item prior to submitting.
14: See a legend of all the buttons and their descriptions as being described here.
15: Expand the text box to full screen to get more room for editing. You would simply select this same button to return to the regular screen.
16: Expand and collapse the text editor toolbar.
17: Cut selected items.
18: Copy selected items.
19: Paste the most recently cut or copied items.
20: Find/replace text.
21: Undo the previous action.
22: Redo the previous action.
23: Align text to the left.
24: Align text in the center.
25: Align text to the right.
26: Align text to both the left and the right margins.
27. Move text or object to the right (indent). Select again to indent further.
28: Move text or object to the left (outdent). Select again to outdent further.
29: Make text into a superscript.
30: Make text into a subscript.
31: Add or edit a hyperlink. You can specify a link to a website, a file from your computer, or an item in the course content collection.
32: Remove any hyperlinks from the selected text, or from the text at the current cursor position.
33: Enter text to the right of the current cursor location (default).
34: Enter text to the left of the current cursor location.
35: Add a thin horizontal line to the current cursor position, spanning the entire width of the text area.
36: Add a thin centered link. You can set the width in pixels or as a percentage of the total available width of the text area.
37: Inset a nonbreaking space at the current cursor position.
38: Turn spell check on or off.
39: Add a file to the text area. The following file types are supported: .doc, .exe, .html, .htm, .pdf, .ppt, .pps, .txt, .wpd, .xsl, .zip
40: Add an image to the text area or edit an existing selected image. Most common image types are supported .gif, .jpg, .bmp, .png, .tif, and others.
41: Add a media clip to the text area or edit an existing selected media item. Selected media types include Flash (default), HTML 5 video, Quicktime, Shockwave, Windows Media, and Real Media.
42: Select this button to open the mathematics equation editor.
43: Select this button to insert a Mashup object.
44: Select to show all non-printing characters. Select again to hide them from the current view.
45: Format the text as a block quote.
46: Open the Select Symbol page. Select symbol to insert at the current cursor position.
47: Open the Insert Emoticon page. Select the emoticon to insert at the current cursor position.
48: Position the cursor where you want the anchor to appear and select to open Insert/Edit Anchor page. Anchors are used to position (anchor) other items and objects, such as images.
49: Select to open the Create/Modify Table page. You can set the properties for the table, including number of rows and columns, spacing, alignment, borders, and more.
50: Select to open the Table Row Properties page. You can set formatting options to control how the contents of a given table row will appear.
51: Select to open the Table Cell Properties page. You can set formatting options to control how the contents of a given table cell will appear.
52: Insert a blank row above the current cursor position.
53: Insert a blank row after the current cursor position.
54: Delete the current row from the table. If multiple rows are selected, all of them will be deleted.
55: Insert a blank column to the left of the current cursor position.
56: Insert a blank column to the right of the current cursor position.
57: Delete the current column from the table. If multiple columns are selected, all of them are deleted.
58: Merge two or more selected cells into a single table cell.
59: Split previously merged table cells. If the cell or cells are not ones that were merged, nothing happens.
60: Select to open the HTML Code View page, where you can edit the content HTML code directly. This is generally meant for web developers.
61: Edit the Cascading Style Sheet (CSS). This is generally meant for web developers.
