Faculty - Using Curriculum Builder in Blackboard

Curriculum Builder is a Blackboard add-in for the library’s licensed discovery service EDS (Ebsco Discovery Service).  It allows you to create reading lists using library subscriptions, open educational resources, streaming video, and other web materials, without ever leaving your Blackboard course shell.  You can organize the readings the way you want students to see them.  Students can access these links right from Blackboard.

You begin using Curriculum Builder by adding a readings link to the Course Documents area.  You can add Curriculum Builder lists more than once, if you wish to create multiple links to different readings lists with different folders.  Or you can do this just once.  It depends on how you decide to organize the materials for your students.

1. Log into Blackboard and into your course
2. Click the Content Area where you want to add the materials from Curriculum Builder (Ex.Course Materials)
3. Click Tools, then click EDS Curriculum Builder
4. Name this area something that students will understand (Ex. Assigned Readings for Week 1)
5. Click Submit

6. You will now see your reading lists link added to the Course Materials page. Click on that link to get started searching for and adding readings.

NOTE: This search shows results from the Library's collections; including e-books, streaming media, articles, and books.

7. Each result has an "Add to Reading List" button. Click on the button to collect readings that you can organize into different lists/folders.

8. Search for all the topics you want to add to this Curriculum Builder Link

9. Repeat the steps and create a new Curriculum Builder link for the next set of materials/readings.
