Identity Finder - Scanning Removable Media

 

To scan a removable USB drive with Identity Finder insert the device into your computer and you will be prompted with the following message

  1. Select the Search now and prompt whenever a removable drive is detected and then OK
  2. The application will then minimize to the task tray, you can double click to open the application 
    1. While the scan is running you can see the live results of the scan by selecting the status window on the main tab
  3. Once the scan completes you will be prompted with the search summary page
  4. To review the results and take action upon the results select the Advanced option 

  5. This screen will show you all of the results that were found during the scan
    1. The Preview Pane is enabled by default but can be turned on and off by clicking the Preview Pane button on the Configuration ribbon.  The Preview Pane displays an unformatted version of the result you have selected.  The main body of the Preview Pane contains the full content where your result was located with all the Identity Matches highlighted in yellow. The preview pane is useful when you do not want/need to open the document that was found to review findings.
  6. Matches can be shown by selecting the entry from the list, multiple matches within a file will be displayed an a drill down list

    The Preview pane will allow you to see the entire document to confirm that the match is legitimate. If the match does contain PII to take action select the item on the left and then choose an action from the main tab. 

    • Shred - when a location has sensitive identity match information in it and you wish to remove it from your computer, you should utilize the Shred feature. Shred is great when you no longer need the personal information or any other data in the item.

    Note:  It is not possible to "undo" a Shred.  Shredded results cannot be recovered.  Once you shred something, it is gone.

    • Scrub — is great when you no longer need the personal information but want to keep the original item.  This feature is also known as Redact.

    Note: Microsoft Access Databases are not able to have the scrub action taken on them.

    • Ignore - is used to whitelist the file location or match and will be ignored in future searches
