Faculty - Creating Blackboard Rubrics

Rubrics provide a guide or checklist to students and teachers on how the assignment will be graded.  This helps set the standards of what is expected in order to receive a grade for the assignment.  Rubrics are graded on a grid structure containing a column with expectations such as: the purpose, organization of the material, grammar/spelling, content accuracy, etc.  In addition each row is indicated by either points, percentages, bad through excellent, etc.

1. Click Course Tools under Control Panel

2. Click Rubrics

3. Click the Create Rubric Button

4. Type in a name for the rubric.

5. Type in a description of the rubric if desired.

6. Select the Rubric Type

  • No Points: Feedback only.
  • Points: Single point value for each Level of Achievement.
  • Point Range: Range of values for each Level of Achievement.
  • Percent: Flexible depending on each assignment's possible points.
  • Percent Range: Range of values for each Level of Achievement.

7. Add rows or columns if needed by clicking the Add Row or Add Column buttons
