Faculty - Add YouTube Videos to Blackboard  

 

Within Blackboard you have the ability to integrate third party items such as Flickr, SlideShare and YouTube.  To add these items you will need to create a “Mashup”.  Located below are the instructions on how to add a “Mashup” to your course. 
1. Log into your Blackboard course.  
   
2. Go into the area where the content will be added.  
   
3. Click on the Build Content button.   
   
4. From the drop down menu, select the mashup you want to add.   

 

Within Blackboard you have the ability to integrate third party items such as Flickr, SlideShare, NBC Learn, and YouTube.  To add these items you will need to create a “Mashup”.  Located below are the instructions on how to add a “Mashup” to your course.

 

YouTube Video

 

Note: YouTube is a video storage site owned by Google.  This site allows individuals to upload video content and share to anyone who has access to the internet.  

 

1. From the drop down menu, select YouTube Video. Within the new window determine the following:          
   
2. Search: Type in what you are looking for...    
   

3. Next to the Search, identify if you want...

 

  1. All of the words
  2. At least one of the words
  3. Without the words
  4. Exact Phrase
 
   
4. Next to Language, select a language for the video selection  
   
5. When ready, click the Go button.  
   
6. Scroll through the options until you locate a video.  
   
7. Scroll through the options provided until you locate the video.  
   
8. Under the video, you have two options:
  1. By clicking the Preview button you can see a larger view of the video.
  2. By clicking the Select button you will identify you want the image.
 
   
9. When ready, click the Select button.  
   
10. A new window will appear, in Section 1: Add YouTube Content to Course, type in the description of why you are using the video.   
   

11. In the Mashup Options, determine if you want the students to view the content by:

  1. View: Thumbnail, Text Link with Player, Embed Video.
  2. Show YouTube URL - Yes or No.
  3. Show YouTube Information - Yes or No. 

Note: It’s a good idea to include the YouTube Information to showcase where the information came from on YouTube.

 
   
12. In Section 3: Attach or Link Content, determine if you want to add additional file(s) to the video.  To add additional content, click the Browse My Computer or Browse Course button.   
   
13. In Section 4: Standard Options, determine how and when the students will see the content:
  1. Permit Users to view this content - Yes.
  2. Track Number of Views - Yes or No.
  3. Select Date and Time Restrictions - up to you as the instructor.
 
   
14. When finished, click the Submit button.  
   
15. The YouTube video will appear in the course with a Mashup icon.
