Faculty - Requesting observer access
Do you need to request observer access for another instructor or administrator to have access to your Blackboard course? We can add the observer in one of three roles:
Guest - Gives the observer access to the course as a guest. The observer in this role can see different areas of your course, but you can control the areas the observer can view. This requires additional steps. If you want the observer enrolled with the Guest role, you must first allow guests to have access to your course. To allow guest access:
Under Customization, click on Guest and Observer Access. Then click Yes to allow Guests, and click Submit.
Then you must give access to the menu options you want the observer to see (ex. Announcements, Start Here, Syllabus, Learning Units, etc.)
To do this: Put your mouse over the course menu option, in the menu at the left, and click the down arrow. Then click "Permit Guests."
- Student -Gives the observer access to your course as a student. The observer will be listed under Users and Groups, and appear as a Student in the Grade Center. The observer will receive any emails you send and Announcements you post.
- Instructor - Gives the observer full access to the course on Blackboard and lists the observer as an Instructor of the course. The observer will receive any emails students send to Instructor users, receive any Announcements posted, and be able to view and edit all aspects of the course, including the Grade Center.
Please send an email to email@example.com to let us know which of these options you would like us to use, the name and email address of the Observer you would like to add, and the name and section number of the Blackboard course. Also, please let us know a time frame for the observer to have access to the course. Our recommendation is that the observer is enrolled in the course as a Guest and has access for one week.
