Faculty - Modify Survey Options in Blackboard

Modifying survey options allow you adjust the survey due date, number of attempts, presentation of questions and more. This article will show you how to modify survey options for surveys in your Blackboard course.

1. Locate your Survey you created in Blackboard and click the gray down arrow.

Then click Edit the Survey Options.

2. You will now be taken to the Survey Information page. This is where you can modify the survey directions and options for taking the survey.

Verify that the name you gave your survey is what you want it to be.

Determine if you would like the survey to open in a new window.

3. Under Survey Availability determine if you want the following options:
  • Make the link available: Make the link visible and available to students.
  • Add a new announcement for this survey: Do you want an announcement to be sent to notify students that the survey is available.
  • Multiple Attempts: Determine if you want to provide students with multiple attempts for taking the survey. If this option is not selected then students will only be able to take the survey once.
  • Force Completion: Force students to complete and submit the survey in one sitting.
  • Set Timer: Add a timer to the survey if you only want students to have a specific amount of time to complete the survey. If you select this option you can have the test Auto-Submit once the time is up regardless of where the student is in the survey.
  • Display After: Pick a date and time when you want the survey to be available to students. If you do not select this option the test will be available once you click Submit.
  • Display Until: Pick a date and time when you want the survey to no longer be available to students. If you do not select this option the survey will be available even past the date you told your students.
  • Password: You can password protect a survey. You can determine how you will give the password to students.

4. Under Survey Availability Exceptions determine if you want the survey to be available for a specific User or Group.

Note: This is not a required field.

5. Under Due Date, determine the survey due date and time.

You also have the option to determine if you do not want to allow students to start the survey if the due date has passed. If you do not check the box next to this option and you have added a due date then students will still be able to take the survey, but it will appear in the Grade Center as Late.

6. Under Show Survey Results and Feedback to Students determine how and when you want students to see their results.

By default, After Submission is selected. You can choose from other options as well from the drop down menu.

Determine if you want students to see the status of the survey and if they are able to see the answers they selected.

7. The last step is to determine the Survey Presentation

Determine if you wants the survey questions to be displayed as:

  • All at Once: Questions for the entire test are on one page.
  • One at a Time: Questions for the test are presented one at a time.

You can also decide if you want to allow students to backtrack or not by checking the box next to Prohibit Backtracking.

Check the box next to Randomize Questions if you would like the survey questions to be in a random order for every student taking the survey.

8. When you are finished, click Submit.
