Faculty - Creating Rubrics for the Discussion Board in Blackboard
Rubrics provide a guide or checklist to students and teachers on what the assignment will be graded. This helps set the standards of what quality expected in order to receive a grade for the assignment. Rubrics are graded on a grid structure containing a column with expectations such as: the purpose, organization of the material, grammar/spelling, content accuracy, etc. In addition each row is indicated by either points, percentages, bad through excellent, etc.
Creating Rubrics

Click on the Course Tools under Control Panel then the Rubrics link. |

Click the Create Rubric Button. |

3. |
Type in a name for the rubric. |

4. |
Type in a description of the rubric if desired. |

5. |
Select the Rubric Type. |
|
6. |
Add rows or columns if needed by using the Add Row or Add Column buttons |

To edit the name of the Criteria or Level of Achievement, click the chevron arrow next to it and select Edit . You also have to option to delete a Criteria or Level of Achievement . |

Enter the possible points and criteria for each level of achievement. |

When finished, click the Submit button. |

Apply the Rubric to the Discussion Forum
1. | Click on the Discussion Board link on the left-hand navigation. | |
2. | Click on the name of the discussion forum that you want to grade. | |
3. | Click the chevron arrow next to the discussion forum that you want to apply the rubric to. |

4. | A menu will display, click the Edit button . | |
5. | Scroll down to the Associated Rubrics section of the page and click the Add Rubric button. |

6. | From the drop down menu, select Select Rubric . | |
7. | Click the checkbox next to the rubric you want to select |
|
8. | When finished, click the Submit button. | |
9. | When prompted to assign the rubrics Maximum Points as the Points Possible, click the OK button. |

10. | Click the box under Show Rubric to Students to allow students to see the rubric scores if desired. |

11. | When finished, click the Submit button. |
