Faculty - Blackboard Grade Center: Delete a Column 

 

You have the ability to remove or delete columns from your Grade Center. The process looks different depending on how you added the columns to your Grade Center. 

This article will walk you through how to do both of these options. 

 

 

Delete a Grade Center Column that was Manually Created

 

Grade Center columns that were manually created can easily be deleted because they are not tied to something specific in the course. Commonly, face-to-face courses have more manually created columns since students are physically turning work into the instructor. 

If you try to delete a column in the Grade Center and you do not see Delete as an option then you will need to follow the directions below for deleting a column that was created automatically. 

 

1. Navigate to your Grade Center and click the gray down arrow that appears at the top of the column you wish to delete.

Then click Delete Column at the bottom of the list.

Note: You will not see Delete Column if the column was automatically added to the Grade Center. You can only delete columns from the Grade Center that are not tied to anything in the course. 

 

 

 

2. A pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm that you want to delete this column.   


 

Delete a Grade Center Column that was Created Automatically

 

Many of the assessments that you create in Blackboard automatically generate a column in the Grade Center so you do not have to create one. Commonly, online and hybrid courses have columns in the grade center that were automatically created since students are submitting work online via Blackboard. 

In order to delete the column you need to delete the assessment from the course. 

 

1. Navigate to your Grade Center and click the gray down arrow that appears at the top of the column you wish to delete.

If you do not see Delete Column at the bottom of the list of options from the menu then you will need to navigate to the area in the course where the assessment lives.

 

2. Locate where the assessment is in your course. 

 
3. Click the gray down arrow next to the name of the assessment. Then click Delete.

 

 

 

4. A pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm that you want to delete this assessment. 

 

 

 

 

5. You will then be taken to another page where you will be asked if you want to: 

  • Preserve the Grade Center item, but delete all attempts
  • Delete this content item, the Grade Center item, all status indicators, and all attempts

 

 

 

6. Select the option you wish and click Remove.  
7. This will remove the assessment from your course and the Grade Center column associated with it.
