Faculty and Students - Using TechSmith Capture App for Screen Recording on iOS/Apple Devices


TechSmith Capture is an app for iOS/Apple Devices that allows you to record your screen with audio. Recordings can be uploaded directly to your TechSmith account. 

This article will show you how to use TechSmith Capture to record a video from your mobile device or tablet.

Note: TechSmith Capture is only available fro iOS/Apple devices and only allows for recordings up to 20 minutes.


1. Open TechSmith Capture from your mobile device or tablet.

2. Tap the Record button in the upper left corner.


3. Tap the microphone icon to turn on your microphone if you wish to use audio.

Then tap Start Broadcast to begin screen recording. A countdown will begin counting down from 3. Once the countdown has ended, you may begin speaking and recording. 

You can record anything on your phone or tablet window. 

Note: The "Recording in Progress" bar is visible in the upper left corner of your phone or tablet. 

Recordings are limited to 20 minutes.


4. When you are finished, tap the recording progress bar in the upper left corner to stop the recording or open the TechSmith Capture app.   

5. The video will process within Capture.

When the video is finished processing it will be available in Capture.


6. Tap the video you just recorded and then tap Share in the lower left corner.   

7. Select TechSmith Knowmia


First Time Users of Capture

If this is your first time using TechSmith Capture you will need to connect your device with your TechSmith account.

On your computer, navigate to your TechSmith account from your web browser (

Login using your College credentials. Then click the Create button on the left side of the screen and select Connect Mobile Device. 

Pick up your mobile device or tablet and hold the camera up to the QR code. 


Your TechSmith account will now be connected with Capture. 


8. Give the video a Name and Description from your mobile device.

Then tap Send in the upper right corner. 


9. Your video will now be available in your TechSmith Library via your TechSmith account on your computer (
