Faculty and Students - Session Moderator: Share Content in Blackboard Collaborate Ultra

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra is a web based conferencing tool. This document explains how the faculty member or Moderator of the session can share content with the participants. 


1. Click the Open Collaborate panel button in the bottom right corner of the window.


2. Click Share Content

2. Click the option you want to share with session participants:

a. Share Blank Whiteboard - draw or type on the blank screen

b. Share Application - share your entire desktop or share an open application

c. Share Files - use this option when you want to share a PowerPoint file


3. Optionally, you can also add secondary content, or change interactions

a. Click Polling to ask session participants a multiple-choice question

b. Click Breakout Groups to send participants to their own room to work in small groups.

3. Share Blank Whiteboard - Collaborate with participants using the whiteboard to draw or to jot down/take notes.


4. Share Application - Choose your desktop screen or the application you want to share. Whenever you move through the application or desktop, the session participants automatically follow along.


5. Share Chrome Tab - Choose Chrome Tab at the top and then select the tab you want to share and click on Share. If you wish to share a video with sound, be sure to click the Share audio checkbox before sharing. Sharing the chrome tab
6. Share Files - You can upload GIF, JPEG and PNG images, PDF files, or PowerPoint presentations of 60MB or lower to your session.

To share files:

  1. Click Add Files Here or drag a file into the box to upload it.
  2. Click Share Now when you're ready for students to see the file.

Note: Shared files stay in the session until deleted by a session moderator.

To delete the file, click the trash can to the right of the file name.

7. If you upload a PowerPoint, a slide navigator panel opens showing you all of your slides.

8. Select a slide to start sharing it.

Note: Click the presentation name to open the slide navigator panel again at any time.


9. When finished, click Stop Sharing.


Content Tools:


Top Row:

  1. Open Session Menu: Use this button to start recording, use your phone for audio, report an issue, or to get Blackboard Collaborate Help
  2. Select: Use the arrow to select an object on the whiteboard. After you select it you can resize, move, and delete it.
  3. Pointer: Use the hand to point to different areas of the visible slide. Participants see wherever you are pointing on the slide.
  4. Pencil: Use the pencil to draw free hand on the slide.
  5. Shapes: Use the shapes tool to draw a rectangle, ellipse, or a straight line.
  6. Text: Type text on the slide with the "T".
  7. Clear: Use clear to undo everything you or another moderator has added to the slide with one click.
  8. Stop Sharing: Click this to stop sharing content.

Bottom Row:

  1. Show/Hide View Controls: Show or hide your zoom, fit, and size controls.
  2. Zoom In: Make the content bigger. Then you must scroll around to see everything.
  3. Zoom Out: Make the content smaller.
  4. Best Fit: Take advantage of your screen real estate. Content adjusts to be completely viewable in the available area. It displays as large as possible while keeping the aspect ratio intact.
  5. Actual Size: Return the image to the original size.

Bottom of shared file (when sharing a file with multiple pages or slides)

  1. Previous Slide: Go back a slide.
  2. File Name: Clicking on the name of the file opens the slide navigator panel.
  3. Next Slide: Move ahead a slide.
