Class Participation: Discussion Boards

In the online and remote environment, it can be difficult to assess your students’ participation or attendance in a course. By creating graded Discussion Boards, you can build a sense of community within your class and grade your students based on their responses and participation. In this session, you will learn how to set up a graded discussion board, discuss the importance of developing good questions, and walk through the grading process.

Class Participation: Flipgrid

Flipgrid is a simple way to foster short video-based discussions on classroom topics. It works like a discussion board but allows your students to post their response as a video. Faculty can set time limits for videos and students and faculty can respond to each other through video as well. In this session, we will show you how to use this tool to engage your students in the learning process.

TechSmith Relay: For Faculty

TechSmith Relay contains two advanced features to help you engage your students in the Blackboard course.  These features help provide valuable feedback to the instructor.  TechSmith Relay provides the ability to incorporate quizzes in lecture videos. Quizzes can help keep your students engaged as they watch the video and provide you with valuable feedback on where they need more help.  The other feature is TechSmith Conversation which allows the instructor and the students to engage in a conversation surrounding a video that is created or added from YouTube.

TechSmith Relay: Using TechSmith Relay with Students

Join this session to learn how to use TechSmith Fuse mobile app and how you and your students can do video recordings on the go.  The session will contain the following:

  • Examples and ways to incorporate into the course
  • Adding to the course from the instructor and student perspectives

TechSmith Relay is also available to MCCC students to record their own learning experiences to post into Blackboard
