Windows - Automatic Wireless Configuration

 

There is an issue that occurs when Windows users attempt to connect to MC3Secure using the standard wireless network connection option. Occasionally, when you choose to connect to the MC3Secure network, your computer will continuously prompt you to enter your username and password. This generally means Windows has not set the network options correctly. Following these steps will correct this issue.

These steps will also help if you need to update your password and the standard Windows credentials prompt is not working.

Windows 7 Users:

1. At the bottom right hand corner of your screen, next to the clock, there should be a  Network Connection icon
2. Right Click and choose  Open Network and Sharing Center

Note: If you do not see this icon, try clicking the arrow to the left to display all of the icons. If it is still not here, you can go to:
Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet>View network status and tasks.
 
3. Click  Manage Wireless Networks
4. If MC3Secure is listed here, double-click on it and continue to step 10

  If not, click Add at the top
5. Insert  MC3Secure for the SSID

6. Security Type  is  WPA2/Enterprise
7. Ensure   Connect even if the network is not broadcasting   is checked
8. Click Next  
9. Choose  Change connection settings

10. Go to the  Security Tab

11. Click  Settings...

12. Uncheck  Validate server certificate

13. Click  Configure...
14. Uncheck  Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).

Enter credentials

Click OK and Close on all open windows. Open a web browser, if you are not redirected, type in wifi.mc3.edu to register on the network

Note: If there is a connection error, turning off your wireless adapter and back on may resolve the issue. 

 

 

Windows 8/10

 

You can remove existing wireless profiles by using the following commands.  

 WARNING ⚠: Use caution when running any commands. Neither the Helpdesk nor the College are responsible for incorrect commands.

  1. Netsh WLAN show profiles
  2. Netsh WLAN delete profile name="Profile_Name"

Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet>View network status and tasks.
 
3. Click  Change adapter settings  from the menu on the left

4. Locate your Wireless or Wi-Fi device

5. Right click on your  Wi-Fi device and choose  Status

6. Go to the  Security Tab

7. Click  Settings...

8. Uncheck  Validate server certificate

9. Click  Configure...  
10. Uncheck  Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).
